* Provides advice and representation regarding standards of care and other matters affecting the civil liberties of persons receiving care at facilities for the mentally disabled.
Eligibility: Patients admitted to psychiatric hospitals or residents admitted to developmental center, patients or residents residing in OMH or OPWDD licensed or operated group homes and community residences.

New York State Supreme Court Appellate Division Mental Hygiene Legal Service works on issues surronding constitutional validity, and the overall legality, of the system of admission, retention, and care and treatment of individuals pursuant to the Mental Hygiene Law, and to represent individuals in guardianships and in certain other proceedings initiated due to concerns over the status of their mental health.
