* Regulates the state's electric, gas, steam, telephone and water utilities also oversees the cable industry. Investigates complaints regarding utilities including the disconnection of services.
- Sets rates and tries to ensure that safe and adequate service is provided.
- Jurisdiction over the citing of major gas and electric transmission facilities.
- Responsible for the safety of natural gas and liquid petroleum pipelines.
- The Depeartement is possible recourse to help deal with gas or electric service cut offs or problems with cable, water or telephone service.

Application Process: Call for information. When calling, have the utility bill, and letters, paper, and pencil ready. Caller will be told that before the Department can assist, attempts must have been made to resolve the problem directly with the utility.
