  • Bed Bugs:
    • Bed bug infestations have become much more common over the past several years. While not a health problem in that they do not transmit disease, they are a nuisance and can cause considerable anxiety.They are not as easily controlled as some other insects, several links are posted on the web site to better assure safe and effective approaches to eliminating bed bugs.
  • Rabies and Animal Bites: 
    • Responds to reported animal bites and potential exposures
    • Conducts free rabies immunization clinics for dogs and cats owned by Monroe County residents, see attachment for specific dates and locations.
    • Maintains immunization records for animals receiving immunizations at clinics
  • Rodent Control:
    • Investigates complaints relating to unsanitary housing conditions
    • Enforces Monroe County Sanitary Codes
    • Investigates heating complaints and assures compliance with applicable codes
    • Investigates rodent and insect infestation complaints
  • West Nile Virus:
    • An illness transmitted by the bite of an infected mosquito. The illness is most serious for older people.
  • Lyme Disease:
    • Caused by a bacteria transmitted by the deer tick and can affect people of any age. Untreated, the disease can cause a number of health problems.
