* The Attorney for the Child (AFC) program at the Legal Aid Society of Rochester represents children in Monroe County Family Court. These attorneys, formerly known as Law Guardians, are appointed by the court to provide free legal representation to children in a variety of cases, including:
  • Abuse.
  • Custody.
  • Foster Care.
  • Juvenile Delinquency.
  • Person In Need Of Supervision (PINS).

Eligibility: All children from birth to 21 years old who are parties to or the subject of a Family Court Petition.

Application Process: An Attorney for the Child is appointed by an order of a Family Court Judge to represent children who are appearing in proceedings before them.

Required Documentation: None.

Fees: No fee for service.

Coverage Note: Monroe and Steuben County.
