* Responsible for supervising charitable organizations to protect donors and recipients from dishonest practices in soliciting and managing charitable resources.

* Supervises activity of foundations and other charities to ensure their funds and property are appropriately used and protect the community.

* Maintains registry of charities and fundraising professionals.

* Investigates complaints that include:
  • Wrongdoing by charitable businesses, trusts, or other nonprofit organizations.
  • Fraudulent or misleading solicitation and improper spending of money for charitable purposes.
  • Inappropriate activities of executors, administrators, trustees, and personal representatives responsible for honoring pledges or gifts to charity.
