thru: Deaf Refugee Advocacy, Inc.
• Teaches group and individual sessions, and workshops for various topics such as:
- American Sign Language (ASL)
- Read and write in English
- Manage money wisely
- How to do things on your own, like cooking and cleaning
- Becoming a US citizen and know about US history and government
- Care of your health and body
- Manage feelings and have good relationships
- How to be ready for a job and work well
- Helps families learn ASL and about Deaf culture
- Learn how to use computers
- Preparation for Driver's Permit
Cultural Competency
Language Access
Eligibility: Deaf refugees, asylum-seekers, immigrants, and those from US territories and family members. US born deaf people that may benefit from services.
Application Process: Walk in, visit website, or call. To guarantee availability, make an appointment.
Required Documentation: All papers relevant to status in this country such as: ID, Social Security number, Visa, etc.
Fees: No fee for services.
Coverage Note: Monroe County.
Cultural Competency: Staff reflects population served
Languages: American Sign Language- Staff provides service in language offered, Staff provides in-person interpreter, Language line, Materials/literature in language indicated
