Section 8 Housing Assistance
thru: Community Action in Self Help
• Assists individuals and families by subsidizing their rent.
- Tenants pay approximately 30% of families adjusted gross income, and NYS Homes and Community Renewal (NYSHCR) pays the remaining balance directly to the landlord.
Eligibility: Must meet income guidelines, age 18 years and older. Participants must meet eligibility requirements and apartments must meet or surpass HUD's Housing Quality Standards.
Application Process: Go online, call or walk in for assistance.
Required Documentation: Proof of address.
Fees: Sliding scale (approximately 30% of income) for rent.
