- Discrimination in renting.
- Accommodation of disabled individuals (e.g.,ramp or therapeutic animal).
- Employment Rights and Rights of Persons with Criminal Records including:
- Employment Discrimination.
- Employment Clearance for Background Checks by Public Agencies.
- Certificates of Relief from Disability/Certificates of Good Conduct.
- Public Benefits denials based on Criminal Record (“Fleeing Felon” and UIB Misconduct).
- Employment Discrimination based on Criminal Record (Re-entry issues).
- Public Benefits Assistance for Denials, Sanctions, or Discountenances of:
- Public Assistance.
- Food Stamps.
- Medical Assistance.
- Child Care benefits.
- Non Dependent Grantee.
- HEAP.
- Emergency Placements.
- Representation at Fair Hearings.
- Seniors Legal Services Project offers civil legal problems faced by individuals sixty years of age and older including:
- Power of Attorney/ Advanced Care Directives.
- Healthcare issues (including Medicare and Medicaid).
- Evictions.
- Rights of Nursing Home and Adult Home Residents.
- Social Security Overpayments.
- Public Benefits.
- Wills, Deeds.
- Debtor/Creditor.
- Fair Housing Enforcement Project.
- Investigates complaints from individuals who are discriminated based on the protected classes in the Fair Housing Act and Human Rights Law i.e race, sex, religion, colors, disability, familial status, national origin, etc.
- Discrimination from landlords, real estate agents, banks, lenders, appraisers, and others involved in a housing-related transaction.
- Education Law.
- Provides assistance to families of students with disabilities ages 3 to 21 years old in navigating the education system.
- Enforcing educations plans.
- Addresses problems with disciplinary process.
- Advice on homelessness and residency.
- Health law & Navigators.
- LawNYs Community Health Advocates can assist with medical bills/debt.
- Insurance denials and reductions.
- Insurance Eligibility.
- Quality of care issues.
- Navigators help individuals enroll in health insurance who do not have insurance at all.
- Health advocates can also assist long term home care issues as well.
- Serves all 14 of LawNY counties.
- OVS.
- Serves Monroe county residents who are facing legal issues due to being a victim of a crime, for example: eviction proceeding due to domestic violence, identity theft, creditor issues, etc.
- Civil legal services for individuals with Cancer and their families.
- Civil legal services for individuals with HIV/AIDS and their families.
- Civil legal services for victims of crime.
Cultural Competency
Language Access
Eligibility: Under 200% FPIG for most programs. Fair Housing, Health and our Seniors Legal Services Project have expanded eligibility guidelines.
Application Process: Call or apply online to start the intake process.
Required Documentation: For most cases, only office forms are required for review and signature. Some programs may require additional documentation for eligibility. All individuals should expect to provide documentation relating to their legal issue if it is available.
Fees: No fee for services.
Coverage Note: Monroe, Yates, Steuben, Schuyler, Chemung, Tompkins, Tioga, Cattaraugus, Allegany and Chautauqua counties.
Cultural Competency: Cultural competency, diversity, equity, and inclusion training for staff, Staff reflects population served
Languages: Spanish- Staff provides service in language offered, Staff provides in-person interpreter, Language line
