Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

thru: Court Appointed Special Advocates of Rochester/Monroe County

Offers advocacy by court-appointed volunteers for children in the court system in cases of abuse and/or neglect. 

Provides independent investigation of the children's environments, safety, health, education and visitation and others as needed. 

Presents concerns to the court, attorney, and caseworker and others. 

Advocates for permanent placement, monitors court action plans and reports progress to the court and all parties.

Eligibility: Volunteers: Ages 21 years or older. Background checks. Successful completion of an extensive training program. Children: Must be assigned by Family Court judge. Any party to the case may request a CASA be appointed.

Application Process: Volunteers apply on-line or through National CASA to become a volunteer advocate. For families and children wishing to have a CASA assigned: must be involved in neglect or abuse case and have attorney request CASA be assigned by the Family Court judge.
