A condition in which there is a malignancy in the tissue of the colon, the section of the large intestine between the cecum and the rectum, and/or the rectum, which extends from the sigmoid flexure to the anus. Colorectal cancers arise from mushroom-shaped growths called polyps which are usually benign but can develop into cancer over time.

Men and women ages 45 years to 64 years, average risk for colorectal cancer. Screening colonoscopy: Men and women who are at elevated risk for colorectal cancer.
