Adult Basic Education

Serving counties: Ontario

Programs, usually offered by community adult schools or as evening classes at local high schools, that provide instruction in fundamental learning skills for adults who have never attended school or have interrupted formal schooling and need to raise their level of education to increase their self-confidence and/or prepare for an occupation. Emphasis is placed on basic reading, language and mathematics to strengthen functional skills in communication, computation and personal-social interaction.

Eligibility:
Adults 21 and over without a US high school diploma. Individuals under 21 can attend with approval from their home school district. Some programs require age or academic readiness.

Workforce Development

Thru: Urban League of Rochester New York

Eligibility:
YouthBuild: high school dropouts, 17-24 years. Navigator: out-of-school youth ages 17-24. GO: 18-24 years old who have been involved in the justice system. WDUI: underemployed or unemployed Rochester area residents. REE: Currently incarcerated adults 18 years and older who will soon be released to the Rochester area.
